Use your own domain

Prefer home.yourdomain.com over a keep-dns.nl name? You can keep using your own domain while KeepDNS does the dynamic part — and you never have to share your registrar credentials.

How it works

Your KeepDNS hostname (for example myhome.keep-dns.nl) always points at your current IP. You add one CNAME record at your own registrar that points your chosen name at that hostname:

home.yourdomain.com.  CNAME  myhome.keep-dns.nl.

From then on, home.yourdomain.com resolves to whatever myhome.keep-dns.nl resolves to, so it follows your IP automatically. Your router keeps updating the KeepDNS hostname exactly as before.

Good to know

• Use a subdomain (home.yourdomain.com), not the root domain — a root domain cannot be a CNAME.
• Keep your router pointed at the keep-dns.nl hostname; the CNAME just forwards to it.
