Use your own domain

Prefer home.yourdomain.com over a keepdns.nl name? You can keep using your own domain while KeepDNS does the dynamic part — and you never have to share your registrar credentials.

How it works

Your KeepDNS hostname (for example myhome.keepdns.nl) always points at your current IP. You add one CNAME record at your own registrar that points your chosen name at that hostname:

myhome.keepdns.nl

Type: CNAME
Name: home
Target: myhome.keepdns.nl.

From then on, home.yourdomain.com resolves to whatever myhome.keepdns.nl resolves to, so it follows your IP automatically. Your router keeps updating the KeepDNS hostname exactly as before.

Good to know

Use a subdomain. Use a subdomain (home.yourdomain.com), not the root domain — a root domain cannot be a CNAME.

Do not change the router settings. Keep your router pointed at the keepdns.nl hostname; the CNAME just forwards to it.
